As The Ticker reported, Safer Kids Safer Schools has teamed up with Traverse City Area Public Schools and SEEDS Ecology & Education Centers to launch a new after-school program at East Middle School. The pilot initiative runs Monday through Thursdays for three hours after school, offering homework help, reading, and group activities such as cooking, art, and outdoor games.
The program is free and open to all students, primarily utilizing space on premises at East Middle School. Organizers hope to eventually replicate the program at West Middle School, though the effort requires raising nearly one million dollars to secure a three-year operational runway. Funding for the initial pilot was supported by a grant from Rotary Charities alongside a fifty thousand dollar contribution from TCAPS.
