Frankfort senior Alice Luther, a four-year veteran of the Panthers volleyball team, is reflecting on her high school journey as her final season progresses. Luther, who moved to Frankfort in 2020 as a sixth grader and began playing volleyball the following year, recognizes the unique nature of her senior year. Anna and Matt Luther's daughter expresses appreciation for the support she has received from her school and the wider community during her time here.
Luther noted that being a senior this season has significantly increased her drive. While she always aimed for improvement in past seasons, she feels a heightened sense of urgency now, focusing on utilizing her current skills with limited time remaining in her high school athletic career. This sharpened focus marks a distinct difference in her approach to the sport.
A key aspect Luther values about Frankfort High School is its small size, fostering an environment where "everyone is kind of like a family." She believes this close-knit atmosphere is a unique benefit not typically found in larger educational institutions. Beyond the school walls, Luther observes the Frankfort community as "very involved," with residents actively working for the students' future and supporting teachers. She sees this deep community engagement as inspiring students to contribute positively to others.
Among her standout volleyball memories, Luther recalled a team trip to Boyne last year, where the entire team stayed together in an Airbnb. She described the experience of having the whole team in one living room as a particularly fun and memorable occasion. The camaraderie and team aspect are something she anticipates missing most once the season concludes, emphasizing the close bonds formed within the team.
Beyond the volleyball court, Luther is also an accomplished track athlete. She primarily competes as a sprinter but has also been trying out hurdles for the past two seasons and participates in various relays. Academically, she fondly remembers her chemistry class from last year, describing it as both challenging and enjoyable.
Looking ahead, Luther has committed to run track at Hope College. Her academic focus there will be in health sciences, though she remains open about her specific career path beyond that. She is eager to embark on this next chapter, looking forward to "starting a career, starting my future outside of Frankfort" after graduation.
Offering advice to her freshman self, Luther would emphasize the importance of "take in the moments, because it's not forever." She would also advise having clear goals and objectives to work towards, suggesting this makes the journey more manageable and rewarding.
